About the Butterfly Knife | Fade
The Butterfly Knife | Fade is one of the most iconic knives in CS2. It arrived in CS:GO in July 2014 with Operation Breakout, which introduced the Butterfly Knife to the game, and the Fade has been one of its most wanted finishes ever since.
It pairs the knife with the most popular flip animations in the game with one of the most famous finishes, a bright gradient that runs from purple at the tip through pink to yellow. Only one case has ever dropped it, which keeps supply limited.
The wear tabs at the top of this page show the current Butterfly Knife Fade price for each condition.
Design
The Fade is made by airbrushing translucent paints that fade into each other over a chrome base. On the Butterfly Knife the gradient covers the blade, while the split handle is left unpainted with red inserts. The colors on this page break down as mostly red, with brown, grey, and orange.
No two Fades look exactly alike. The pattern decides how much purple reaches the tip of the blade. Copies with the most purple are known as Full Fades or 100% Fades, and they are the most wanted.
How to Get the Butterfly Knife | Fade
There are three ways to get a Butterfly Knife | Fade in CS2.
- Buy it from a marketplace. This is the only route that lets you choose the fade, which makes it the route almost every buyer takes. The offers at the top of this page show every marketplace with a listing.
- Open a case. The Butterfly Knife | Fade drops only from the Operation Breakout Weapon Case. Knife drops are rare, at around 0.26% per case, and the finish you get is random.
- Trade up to it. Since October 2025, a trade-up contract using Covert skins can produce a knife from an eligible case. The finish is still random.
Wear Conditions and Float
The Butterfly Knife | Fade has a float range from 0.00 to 0.08, so it only exists in two wear conditions: Factory New (FN) and Minimal Wear (MW). There is no Field-Tested, Well-Worn, or Battle-Scarred version.
Wear barely shows on most copies. Near the top of the range, small scratches appear along the cutting edge. Most copies are Factory New, and Minimal Wear covers only 0.07 to 0.08.
Switch between the two conditions using the tabs above. Each one has its own listings and price history.
Variants
The Butterfly Knife | Fade comes in a standard version and a StatTrak™ version, which counts your kills with the knife. Pricempire lists each version separately, so you can compare them using the toggle above. There is no Souvenir version.
What Drives the Price of the Butterfly Knife | Fade
- Fade percentage. Full Fades with the most purple at the tip carry a clear premium over lower-fade copies.
- Float. With only two conditions, the exact float matters more than the wear name, and the lowest floats are worth more.
- StatTrak™. The StatTrak™ version is scarcer than the standard one and priced separately.
- The Butterfly Knife itself. It is one of the most wanted knife models in CS2, which lifts every finish on it.
- Case supply. The Operation Breakout Weapon Case is an older case opened far less than current ones, so few new copies enter the market.
