Any player who’s looked into buying their first knife will inevitably come across the Butterfly Knife. In the real world, the knife is a marvelous engineering work that allows a skilled user to perform dangerous tricks that defy fear. And that feeling is perfectly transferred into the digital world in CS2. But that alone can’t justify the cheapest variants of this knife costing as much as 5 times the Navaja knife. So let’s take a look at what makes the Butterfly Knife so expensive.
Why is the Butterfly Knife the Most Expensive Knife in CS2
At the top of the list of factors has to be the animation. In CS2 all knives have a unique inspect animation, including the default one. Some later knives also have rare animations similar to the Deagle’s infamous spin inspect. The butterfly, however, takes it several steps further with three different inspect animations and two different draw animations. That makes it one of the most entertaining melees to use, mimicking the appeal of fidget spinners and the constant stream of Subway Surfers gameplay in all your favorite shorts.
Secondly, the gorgeous patterns truly shine when placed onto a Butterfly Knife. With the narrow blade only displaying a small section of the patterns, the knife is likelier to hit favorable patterns, with the most sought-after ones being the various Gems. This makes it so that there are around 70 different blue gem patterns, the most of any knife. Fades have a tighter gradient, Marble Fades have a better palette, and knives like the Slaughter have many special patterns.
The final and somewhat boring answer is, of course, demand and supply. The knife only drops from certain cases with the individual patterns being even rarer. The Breakout Case, for example, is the only case that gets Case Hardened and Fade Butterflies. Lore and Gamma Dopplers are exclusive to Riptide and Dreams & Nightmares. Spectrums contain Marble Fades, Dopplers, and Tiger Tooths.
These three factors combine to create a scenario where the Butterfly Knife is almost always the most expensive model for any finish. The M9 Bayonet followed closely behind, but the Butterfly always takes the cake.
The $1.5 Million Knife
When it comes to individual valuations, Karambits will always be on top thanks to the most valuable knife in the game. A Factory New 387-pattern blue gem Karambit | Case Hardened. That knife was valued $1.5 million with some offers in that range already been offered. Still the Butterfly remains the lucrative purchase for passionate but not millionaire players.
