CS2 on Consoles? - PS5 Xbox Series X
Counter-Strike 2 launched in September 2023. With massive visual updates, and gameplay changes across the board, the game continues the stories legacy of the CS franchise. Launching well in the swing of the 9th Generation of Consoles, players may have expected the game to make its way across from the PC. So will CS2 come to PS5 and Xbox Series X?
CS2 on PS5 - Will it happen?
Since the launch of CS2, Valve have given no indication that a PS5 port is in the works. While FPS games are always best played with a Mouse and Keyboard, millions of players enjoy playing with their controllers too. Given the hype around CS2 at launch, and VALORANT’s recent foray into the console realm, many may be dissapointed with the lack of a CS2 port for the platform.
CS2 on Xbox Series X
Even Microsoft’s platform doesn’t get any extra love. CS2 will not be making its way over to the Xbox Series X or S. The two consoles of this generation may have completely dominated sales at launch, with depleted stocks in the midst of the pandemic, Valve’s focus has not wavered. PC remains the only platform for CS2.
Counter Strike’s History on Consoles
Over the ages, Counter-Strike’s relationship with Consoles has waxed and waned. 1.6 and Source were released at a time when competitive games were on PC alone. But by the time CS:GO was released Valve could no longer deny the popularity.
That made Global Offensive a game designed around the planned consoles releases. Both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 received releases for the game early on. Unfortunately, the console releases never found the traction they needed, and that reinforced Valve’s focus on PC.
After all why should the company that essentially runs PC Gaming move to a foreign platform for a fraction of the installs.
